About the session

Comment is Free, but Facts are Sacred

What did the Guardian learn when it opened up its journalism to the public?

SPEAKER: Georgina Henry (UK), Executive Comment Editor, The Guardian
MODERATOR: Martin Krasnik (DK), journalist, Weekendavisen

Web 2.0 users want to have a say in things. In response to this need, the Guardian launched ‘Comment is free’ on their website in 2006: An open-ended space for debate, dispute and arguments in which users are able to comment on everything they read. But how does it influence journalism when the readers become writers and the traditional gatekeeper role of the media is blurred? In this talk, Georgina Henry will share the key learning experiences from opening up the Guardian’s journalism to the public.
